ROME & LAZIO FILM COMMISSION’S SUCCESS AT THE 61ST CANNES FILM FESTIVAL: Europe and America working for co-productions
The Fondazione FILM COMMISSION di ROMA, delle PROVINCE e del LAZIO has enjoyed success for all its many initiatives organised at the 61st Cannes Film Festival. It was present on the Croisette to promote meetings and activities supporting Italian and international producers, who are showing an increasing interest in Lazio's cinema initiatives.
More than 100 European and American producers took part in the 11th CRC Capital Regions for Cinema run by the Rome & Lazio Film Commission with the three other members of the network of Film Commissions in the European regions of Ile de France, Comunidad de Madrid and Berlin-Brandenburg. US producers invited by the New York State Film Commission met their counterparts from the European sector with a view to stimulating new co-productions. This is just the start of a more wide-ranging collaboration, to be further developed during the 12th CRC co-production meetings, scheduled during the Rome Film Fest in October.
Collaboration between the Rome & Lazio Film Commission and the New York State Film Commission will be further expanded with the CRC initiative to develop European cinema, to be held in New York in the coming months, put on with the contribution of the most important institutions and associations from the American cinema industry.
Further CRC activities held in collaboration with the Rome & Lazio Film Commission include the organisation of a round table debate in Paris in November to discuss new European openings in the sphere of special effects, to involve Italy's leading protagonists in the field, with a view to developing the European post-production market on an international level.
There was a packed press conference given by the director Pasquale Squitieri to present his project IO, CLAUDIA. Attending journalists and professionals had the chance to see a promo of the docu-drama produced for OIDE' by Augusto Caminito and Raimondo Lagostena, in collaboration with the Rome & Lazio Film Commission, on the public and private life of screen legend Claudia Cardinale narrated by the journalist and writer Giordano Bruno Guerri.
And finally the Rome & Lazio Film Commission's stands at the Marché and I-Club proved to be very popular, also offering visitors the chance to see a promo of the film "Thy Neighbour" by Anne-Riitta Ciccone, starring Jean Hugues Anglade, Maya Sansa, Diane Fleri and Sulevi Peltola. This co-production involving Italy, France and Finland is funded by the Lazio Region through FILAS and is a project initiated during the CRC co-production meetings at Cannes in 2007.
